Ms. Jing Zhao has been a Chinese customs lawyer for over a decade - first as a customs officer and legal counsel at the China General Administration of Customs (GACC), followed by a customs consulting career in private practice with Beijing Henderson - a Chinese customs law consulting firm.

 

Ms. Zhao joined a major Beijing based PRC law firm in 2014 and is now one of the office managing partners with the firm.  

 

Ms. Zhao's practice focuses on advising clients on negotiations with the GACC and its local branches on issues relating to customs duties, classifications, pricing and clearances; customs compliance risk assessment and management; customs auditing, seizure and other Chinese customs enforcement actions - both administrative and criminal; customs IP protection and enforcement; as well as international trade disputes.  

 

Ms. Zhao has successfully advised many major Chinese domestic and international companies including: Shanghai GM, BMW Brilliance, Nike, French Veolia Water Technologies, Diebold Financial Equipment, Siemens, LG and Digital China on their customs matters.  

 

Ms. Zhao is also routinely engaged by the GACC's Beijing Customs Headquarters, the Shanghai Customs Office, the Suzhou Customs Office, as well as other GACC branches, to act as their independent 3rd party expert consultant in some of the GACC customs compliance audits on import export and international trading companies in China.

 

Jing Zhao is a graduate of the China University of Politics and Law (LLB in Law, 1999) and holds the PRC Bar Qualification since 2000.

Jean's practice focus on IP, finance, real estate, corporate, foreign direct investment in China, involving both litigation and commercial transactions  She has successfully represented many major Chinese domestic and multinational companies in trademark and copy right infringement, patent and trade secret litigations, and contract disputes.  

 

With such successful and precedent-setting cases in China under her name including: Starbucks vs. Xinbake; Nike vs. Adidas & Zhengzhi, Yaqing vs. Coco-Cola, 20th Century Fox vs. Fengxing, Bloomberg  vs. Great Wisdom and many other complex litigations in which she acted as the lead counsel for major multinational companies, Ms. Yang has established herself as one of the top litigation lawyers in China.

 

Jean also specializes in advising multinational companies in China as their outside General Counsel.  For many of her clients, she focuses especially on their IP strategies in China including patents, trademarks and copyrights protection and related litigations.

 

Jean is actively involved with the Shanghai government organizations and is an elected member of the Shanghai Xuhui District Council of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee.

 

Jean also served as the executive director of the Shanghai IPR Association. She is a regular contributor for "Shanghai Watch" of the "International Business Law" magazine and the "Legal Practice Live Express from Shanghai" column for Search-China, a Sino-Japan business web-site.  Jean is is also a regular speaker at many legal and business forums in the region.
